Challenge 1: Mobile App Development in One Day.
The focus was on creating offline tools and utilizing mobile phone features such as the microphone, camera, and GPS. The team dived into React Native with the Expo framework. They prepared a small assignment for the day to have a clear goal and focus areas, which included:
- React Native UI development in general
- Accessing the device camera and saving pictures
- Reading QR codes using the device camera
- Gathering basic device and operating system information
- Gathering geolocation information
- Communicating with a backend server
- As a bonus, delving into push notifications
The day started with an introduction to React Native and Expo, followed by planning the application based on the assignment specifications. The team then split into sub-teams to implement individual components and later combined their work. Despite limited experience in mobile app development, the experts achieved working features and even explored push notifications.
Janne Martikainen mentioned, “Even though our team had very limited experience in mobile application development, we managed to achieve actual working features in a very short timeframe. The UI doesn’t look very polished, but we managed to tick all the boxes and also had some time to dive shortly into our assignment’s bonus task - receiving/sending push notifications.”
The challenge to build an mobile app in just one day was fun and educational, and the team is looking forward to the next challenge workshops in the future!
Challenge 2: Composable Commerce Solution
This challenge involved integrating a Product Information Management (PIM) system and building an item card. The developers created a React front-end for the item card, which runs on Cloudflare, and worked on cloud-native generation of item feeds. Additionally, they integrated and conducted product searches using Adeona.
Challenge 3: AI-Based Resourcing App POC
The team worked on a proof of concept for an AI-based resourcing application, exploring how artificial intelligence can optimize resource allocation and management.
Challenge 4: Terraform MFA POC
The developers also created a proof of concept for implementing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) using Terraform, enhancing security measures for the infrastructure.
Overall, the day was filled with learning, collaboration, and innovation. The team had a great time building new solutions and expanding their skills. Looking forward to more such productive and fun-filled days in the future!
